The Senior Communications Specialist is a seasoned writer with a newspaper/magazine background, experienced in generating compelling, persuasive copy for a variety of internal/external communications vehicles. Assist in developing and executing UNTHSC’s public relations action plan.

Job Duties:

  • Research, write, edit and proofread stories under the direction of senior management. Provide timely updates to story tracking database and work collaboratively with other staff communications specialists and communications staff.
  • Develop, edit, and/or write compelling content for online, social media, in-person, and in-print use, including client stories, fact sheets, op-eds, blog postings, PowerPoint presentations, scripts, speeches, white papers, etc.
  • Coordinate website editorial content with staff, keep content up to date, and ensure all web pages and documents meet established content standards.
  • Create strategies for social media platforms and create and post content daily, keeping audiences engaged (Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube). Develop and manage standard news announcements for internal and external consumption regarding important donor/partner engagements, financial deals or important business successes.
  • Develop and maintain stakeholder communications and media lists, as well as a cost-effective and integrated news distribution strategy aligned with key audiences (e.g. financial industry, the international development community, philanthropic circles).
  • Work with senior management to develop key messages and talking points and identify opportunities for positive communications. Monitor situations that may adversely impact the institution’s business reputation, and, as situations require, recommend and develop an appropriate communications response.
  • Provide support for external speaking engagements as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree and three (3) years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
