Reports To: Director of Development
Position Purpose: Responsible for the successful functioning of the volunteer program, including recruitment and retention of volunteers as well as external communication to constituents.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Volunteers
 Recruit, select, train, orient, assign and supervise volunteers.
 Prepare volunteer schedules and manage assignment/volunteer requests as changes occur.
 Manage volunteer application process, including interviewing prospects, reviewing reference letters and background checks (when appropriate), recommending volunteer placements, and scheduling volunteers for general orientation and any specialized trainings.
 Maintain records/files for volunteers.
 Develop and conduct volunteer orientation, specialized trainings and annual trainings.
 Develop and implement new volunteer programs.
 Develop and maintain close working relationships with corporations and community volunteer groups.
 When necessary, speak to community groups, professional organizations, church groups, schools and career clubs to publicize and recruit for volunteer program; escort groups on tours as needed.
 Attend meetings and serve on committees as appropriate.
Communications
 Create and manage all external communications including graphic design, pre-production, printing, and mailing.
 Maintain WDCS Website.
 Create and execute email communication to constituents.
 Create and maintain strategic communications plan and target market positioning.
 Manage WDCS social media plan and presence.

QUALIFICATIONS:
 Demonstrate ability to listen and communicate with others in a clear, understandable and professional manner on the phone and in person; demonstrate good written and verbal communication skills.
 Fluency in Adobe InDesign, Mailchimp and Donor Perfect preferred.
 Interact effectively with peers, teachers, volunteers, donors, community groups and other volunteer groups in a manner that represents WDCS positively.
 Willingness to be flexible and adaptable to change.
 Ability to provide clear, accurate direction and guidance to train volunteers.
 Ability to investigate, analyze and resolve non-routine issues and problems.
 Ability to recruit and retain volunteers.
INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL INTERACTION:
 Regular contact with all levels of staff to provide and receive information related to volunteer activities.
 Regular contact with potential volunteers and community groups to provide information regarding volunteer opportunities.
 Regular contact with community and church groups to recruit volunteers, promote the school and receive donations.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
 Regularly interact with volunteers and guests.
 Be able to occasionally lift up to 30 pounds.
 Work at a desk and computer screen for extended periods of time.
BUDGET MANAGEMENT:
 This position is responsible for managing the budget items related to volunteers and communications.
