Description

Position Function: Works closely with the Director of Marketing to plan and create original content for various publications and online channels and manage the agency’s website(s) and digital media analytics to expand ACH’s digital footprint, awareness, subscribers and leads. Coordinate internal communications to keep staff informed of updates, policies and procedures. The Communications Specialist will oversee the design and production of agency collateral and promotional items. This role requires a high level of creativity, initiative, and attention to detail.

Requirements:

Education: Must possess a bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, Communications, or related field.

Experience: Minimum of one year of marketing and/or public relations experience including content creation, writing and editing, website management, social media management, and some graphic design. Must demonstrate functional proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office, website/intranet management platforms such as WordPress, the Adobe Creative Suite and Canva. AP Style knowledge preferred. Knowledge of analytical tools such as Google Analytics and Semrush.

Functional: Must be an excellent communicator, creative thinker and self-motivated. Serve as an exemplary writer with the ability to adopt to the style, tone and voice of ACH’s various types of content. Must possess exceptional editing skills and excellent organizational skills to work independently and lead projects with many moving parts. Interpersonal and communication skills are an absolute necessity in this role. The Communications Specialist will be committed to ethical standards of public relations and marketing.

Working Conditions: Heavy computer usage/keyboard and clerical functions in an office environment; attendance, planning and participation in public functions; and must be flexible to accommodate evening and weekend events on occasion.

Exposure to Confidential Information: Maintain confidentiality and follow policies related to donor, personnel, and client records, with particular attention to print and broadcast media restrictions.

Key Expectations/Responsibilities:

Content Development:

  • Proactively work with all internal programs and staff on a regular basis to develop stories and an information library to use for all media, such as blog articles, intranet and internet articles, advertising, etc.
  • Oversee production of the fundraising e-newsletter.
  • Plan, arrange and conduct interviews to create compelling stories in all media

Website/Intranet Development and Management:

  • Regularly monitor websites and update content.
  • Improve SEO and recommend and implement other ways to boost awareness
  • Work with internal audience to create new pages and content, as aligned with marketing goals and overall strategic plan.
  • Post news of interest to staff on the intranet.
  • Guide associated contractors in solving issues and outages.
  • Execute the delivery of assigned digital services within budget and on time

Creative Direction:

  • Create agency marketing collateral; fliers, brochures, posters, etc.
  • Proactively work with all internal programs and staff as needed to develop content
  • Coordinate and order promotional items
  • Provide guidance and communication to associated artists and contractors regarding advanced graphic design marketing requests.
  • Oversee and maintain brand standards.

Social Media:

  • Build and manage ACH’s social media presence, monitoring and evaluating campaign effectiveness with tools like Google Analytics, Facebook Insights, Meltwater, etc.
  • Improve inbound organic search traffic/SERPs
  • Optimize the posting of blogs, social media, and related strategies
  • Create executive summaries of web analytics data and site evaluations
  • Continually evaluate the social media and digital landscape for innovative/new platforms to determine viability and how to implement into overall marketing strategy.
  • Develop paid marketing campaigns to attract and interact with targeted virtual communities and networks users.
  • Collaborate with the Multimedia Specialist to cover photo responsibilities as needed.

Editing:

  • Assist Director of Marketing and team members with editing web content, print publications, collateral, advertisements, etc.
  • Provide feedback to other blog contributors and edit other writers’ content.

Events:

  • Assist in the creative direction to achieve event objectives, collaborating with event owner and the multimedia specialist
  • Attend public and internal events as needed to perform marketing functions such as story development or backup photography.

Collaboration:

  • Actively engage, cultivate and manage internal relationships.
  • Meet regularly with program staff to gauge their communication needs and learn more about potential stories.
