Position Summary

The Communications Assistant is a part-time position responsible assisting the communications department, assisting the events department, and other various administrative tasks to facilitate the organization’s mental health conferences, fundraising events and other special projects.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assist creating a variety of marketing-related content, including pre-scheduled social media posts, create Facebook event posts live tweeting at conferences and fundraising events
  • Help monitor comments, direct messages, etc. across the Foundation’s social media accounts
  • Take photos for social platforms at conference events, fundraisers and other Foundation functions as needed
  • Develop, write and edit newsletter articles
  • Assist with ongoing administrative tasks as needed, including email subscriber data entry
  • Help facilitate the promotion, organizing and coordination of mental health conferences and fundraising events
  • Assist creating and editing conference and fundraising materials
  • Assist team with setup, engagement, etc. at off-site conference and fundraising events as needed
  • Perform various administrative tasks, maintaining records as well as answering phone inquiries and providing basic organization information to constituents and other community members and agencies

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Proficiency in Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Strong writing and editing skills. Impeccable grammar, spelling, and punctuation skills
  • Knowledge of AP style is preferred
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing
  • Strong organizational and time management skills and ability to meet deadlines
  • Experience using social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram)
  • Some experience with HTML web and email preferred, but not required
  • Photography, some basic graphic design and video editing skills are a plus
  • The ability to work independently and with others – especially volunteers, donors, and vendors
  • Dependability, flexibility and ability to maintain confidentiality are a must
  • Commitment to agency vision, core values and mission
  • Demonstrated ability to carry out or assist in project completion in all departments as directed by the supervisor

Preferred Education Experience
Degree or pursuit of a degree in communication, journalism, public relations, marketing, hospitality management, or related field.

Physical Requirements

The Grant Halliburton Foundation Communications Assistant must have the ability to spend time seated, the dexterity to perform computer keyboard functions, the ability to stand for long periods of time, and the ability to lift 50 pounds to carry and distribute materials to the community and assist with event setup.

The employee must have reliable transportation.

FLSA: Exempt – Hourly

Part-Time – 20 to 25 hours/week

Reports to: Director of Communications / Director of Special Events
