AWC Dallas Annual Awards Luncheon

North Texas’ most distinguished communicators will gather at the annual awards luncheon of the Association for Women in Communications Dallas Professional Chapter (AWC Dallas), Saturday, April 17.

The event, open to the public, will be held at the House of Blues Dallas, in the historic White Swan Building, 2200 N. Lamar Street, Dallas, 75202.

Kris Boyd, the host and managing editor of KERA-FM’s flagship midday talk show “Think,” will emcee the event. Boyd was the recipient of AWC’s Outstanding Dallas Communicator award in 2009. Keynote speaker will be veteran financial journalist Karen Blumenthal, who writes the “Family Money” column for The Wall Street Journal.

Karen Blumenthal is the author of Grande Expectations: A Year in the Life of Starbucks’ Stock, which was named one of the five best investing reads of 2007 by Kiplinger’s magazine. Her presentation is titled "How I Got Burned by Beanie Babies." Attendees will leave with a new understanding about how to recognize and respond to financial bubbles based on her research on the stock market crash of 1929 and reporting on Starbucks and financial markets.

Honorees for the 2010 awards include --

Outstanding Dallas Communicator: Cheryl Diaz Meyer, Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer

Dallas Community Service Award: Wanda Brice, CEO of The Women’s Museum

Dallas Trailblazer Award: Louise Raggio, author, renowned lawyer and "Mother of Family Law in Texas."

Registration begins at 11:30, with luncheon scheduled for 12:00 - 1:30 p.m. The cost to attend is $25 for AWC members and $30 for guests. Pay cash or check at the door.
