SGA is looking for a full-time, motivated Marketing and Communications Specialist with experience in content development, creative design, email marketing, internal and external communications across multiple platforms, website and database maintenance, monitoring and reporting on analytics and experience in paid and organic social media.  The position will also serve SGA’s subsidiary, the Gas Machinery Research Council (GMRC).

Initial office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Overtime may be required to meet deadlines.


Must be able to travel at least 3 times a year, which will include overnight stays and possible weekend travel.

The successful applicant will have work or educational history that demonstrates initiative, resourcefulness and problem solving with a strong sense of responsibility and ownership and the ability to accept and act upon feedback.

Essential Functions

Content Development

  • Write effective content to help promote the benefits and offerings of SGA and GMRC, following the department’s and organization’s strategic plan, for the following, but not limited to:
  • Conferences
  • Sponsorships
  • Promotions
  • Training - onsite and online
  • Connect@SGA – virtual member platform, that hosts: open forums, resource libraries and a searchable membership directory
  • Volunteer/committee awareness
  • Membership and program campaigns
  • General member connection communications

Design and Create

  • Assist with creating the design of the following items, based on the theme selected by the team:
  • Badges
  • Signage, including banners
  • Slide deck templates
  • Webpages (events, training, overall organizational communications)
  • Promotional emails, mailers and other creative “pieces” (events, training, overall organizational communications)

Customer Database

  • Assist in maintaining a clean and effective database, working with member services and membership to ensure maintenance is completed regularly, as it relates to marketing and communications
  • Assist with distribution list hygiene
  • Assist with other duties as assigned


  • Prepare various reports as they relate to marketing and communications and share content with the team
  • Assist with other duties as assigned


  • Assist marketing and communications manager in monitoring website consistency for a clean and modern look
  • Assist in maintaining general webpages (ex. “About” and “Homepage”)
  • Assist with other duties as assigned


  • Organization’s newsletters and advertising: assist with design, layouts, collect and help determine content, assist in writing content and distributing communications
  • Prepare blog content relevant to membership interests and overall organizational promotion

Social Media

  • Assist with posting in multiple platforms to increase organization’s awareness and engagement

Administrative and Other Duties

  • Provide administrative support to the marketing and communications team
  • Work closely with the manager of marketing and communications to understand and execute tasks at hand
  • Take pictures at events when a professional photographer isn’t available
  • Maintain photo gallery
  • Other duties as assigned (some duties will cross over into the events and volunteer/committee functions)

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications or related discipline
  • Minimum Experience: 2+ years of experience in marketing and communications
  • Experience with CRM databases, email service providers and creative design processes
  • Strong marketing and general business writing skills
