Primary Purpose:

The Development Grant Writer is responsible for conducting the full range of activities required to prepare, submit, and manage grant proposal to foundations and corporate sources. This individual will perform research prospecting foundations and corporations on a local, statewide and national level, evaluative the prospects for grants and funding in line with the organizational mission and values.  Shall also act as the editor for all departmental communication pieces and assist the Development Staff with various writing tasks as needed.



Bachelor degree in English, Marketing, Journalism or related field preferred, or equivalent experience.

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to research, prospect, and suggest foundations and corporations that would provide advantageous relationships and funding.

Maintain current records in database and in paper files, including grant tracking and reporting.

Ability to deal with deadlines changing conditions while maintaining quality standards.

Outgoing and energetic personality with strong commitment to employer.

Excellent listening skills, and the ability to maintain confidentiality.

Superior written and verbal communications skills, analytical skills, and experience using

Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Internet.

Must have exceptional follow-through skills.

Must possess high degree of accuracy in editing and proofreading.



Two years of experience working with grants and communication.

Experience with donor database management and reporting preferred.
